Labeling Theory: TV and Movie Edition

Q Since our book uses the Harry Potter books and films to illustrate the power of Labeling Theory, I thought we could also use films and television to explore this theory. Seeing the power of labels work out in a story can aid us in understanding how this process can work and impact individuals and their decisions. For this assignment, you will select a movie or episode of a TV show in which a character is labeled as deviant, and this label impacts their subsequent behavior. If you are struggling to identify a movie or TV show which features labeling theory, you can consult the list of films offered up in the book on page 341. Assignment Steps Please describe the character arc that you have chosen. You can do so in 1-2 paragraphs. For the character you described, please describe the process of the labeling theory using the concepts in the chapter. You may want to draw upon the following concepts: primary deviance, secondary deviance, looking-glass self, self-fulfilling prophecy, master status, or residual rule breaking.

The character Walter White of the TV series Breaking Bad by Vince Gilligan is a character that was labeled as deviant. However, the character performs a deviant act because of which he was labeled as deviant later. People have reasons for being deviant, and Walter White also had a cause that was not wrong for him (Gilligan,2008). White was a chemistry teacher who did not earn much. He had two children, out of whom one had cerebral palsy and the other was an infant. Above that, White had terminal cancer, and he needed money to secure his families future.
